How To Balance Life As A Student Majoring in Public Relations

By Amaya Lewis

Being a college student can be rough. Balancing schoolwork, PR internships, jobs, and wellness goals while maintaining a decent and fun social life can be mentally, and sometimes physically exhausting.

It can become even more taxing when you are over the age of 25 and bear more responsibility.

It’s not easy to do it all, but it can be done with a little discipline and resilience.

As a college student majoring in Public Relations who is also over the age of 25, I can admit that I haven’t always been the best at staying disciplined and keeping a healthy school/work/life balance. Now that I am in my last semester of college, I think I have finally mastered it.

Firstly, I keep myself on a tight academic schedule. I write down all my assignments due for the week in a planner and write each assignment I plan to work on, on its respective days of the week.

Secondly, I set out a timeframe for when and how long I want to work on each assignment and my PR internship. This just makes sure I’m being proactive with the time I have throughout the day.

Thirdly, I take a deep breath. I don’t allow myself to be stressed because, at the end of the day, everything is going to work out. The work will get done, the grades will be good, and I will still accomplish everything I set out to accomplish, and you can too.

I say all of that to say that it’s not a race, it’s a marathon. Take a deep breath and focus on what is right in front of you. Don’t worry about tomorrow, until tomorrow comes.
