The Chappell Roan Femininomenon

Although Chappell Roan has been releasing music for over a decade, her album “The Rise and Fall Of A Midwest Princess,” has perfected her personal branding and helped launch her to stardom. With recognizable hits like “HOT TO GO!” and “Red Wine Supernova,” Roan has begun touring and has drawn massive crowds to her concerts, capitalizing on her newfound fame with brand deals, interviews and other notable advancements in her career.

However, with this fame has come criticisms from fans about her political stances and personal boundaries. Compared to singer Sabrina Carpenter, who has had media training since her childhood because of her Disney stardom on “Girl Meets World,” Roan has been much more vocal about her stances.

This has led to her posting several videos on her TikTok account (@chappellroan) where she is visibly frustrated to respond to some of the criticisms. One video of her discussing her boundaries as an individual has amassed more than 20 million views, sparking even more controversy.

Public relations professionals should take note of this crisis for Chappell Roan’s team because their response could have been improved dramatically. Because Roan has positioned herself as an activist, her platform will face increased scrutiny, and this could continue to cause her brand issues if issues brought up are not addressed in a timely, appropriate fashion.
